A few days ago, my radio headunit stopped working. It didn't stop mid-journey. It just didn't come on when I started the car. I noticed that the USB sockets and 12v socket in the dash all aren't working, though the 12v socket in the rear of the car is working fine. I've checked fuses in the glovebox, beside the airbag switch and also in the engine bay and can't find any that are blown.

Has anyone experienced this or would anyone hazard a guess as to where the fault may lie? Would this fault be covered under warranty (car is under 3 years old with 32k miles).

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like loose connection or a fuse. Best to check with a dealer. I'm positive this should be covered under warranty unless any outside intervention happened on the R-Link unit or connected electronics (which is not the case for what I read).

This may sound weird but I've considered in the past what would happen if a so called "usb killer" device is plugged in to one of the usb ports. I imagine the result would be what you are experiencing.

From Wikipedia:

A USB Killer is a device that looks similar to a USB thumb drive that sends high-voltage power surges into the device it is connected to, threatening to damage hardware components.

That's a new one on me but then I guess you are in the industry that would be affected by this type of attack
