I've  been using Collinite 915 as a summer wax and 476s as a winter wax so I wax my car at least twice a year. It's like a hobby to me so in summer time I try to wash my car as often as I can. Now I'm planning on getting a glass coating because it rains quite often in Finland. I also got a paint protection film (PPF) to the bonnet. Loose rocks and winter tire studs tend to scratch the paint.

when i was young i spent hours polishing the piece of rubbish i was driving at the time, I was told by my grandfather, "you can't polish a turd".

When i got to be older  and could afford a bit better car, i got one of my lads at the garage to keep it spick and span, (mostly as a punishment especially in the winter)

now i am older i relise that, apart from getting away from the wife's nagging, Sorry, constantly repeating herself, a trip to the local hand wash when i need to see out of it is a nice experience.

the moral of the story, having spent hundreds on new things to keep the car clean they all rubbish, leasing the car for three years and sending them back is the best thing ever. i believe you need to get back the car cleaning time and spend more time in the pub.

The older I get, the less I wash the car. Funny, it doesn't seem to suffer for it. I think each wash removes a little of the protection you put on in the first place.
So now I wax it once a year with Armor Shield which is really easy to apply and seems to last, providing I don't wash it too often.

I have a few preferences depending upon the vehicle and paint.

Firstly though, the preparation is key if you want a good result which will last.

Always use a two bucket wash method to limit grit in soapy water. Use a decent detergent (I prefer Autoglym, but there are plenty others about).
Use a fallout remover to remove metal deposits, and dry the car. Clay it to remove surface impurities.

Polish if required to remove scratches, cobwebs, swirls and marks (suncream...)

Then a pre-wax glaze which removes the polish (I prefer Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite though you can combine both the polish and glaze section by using Lime Prime)

Then wax.
Meguiars ultimate liquid wax if I'm in a hurry
Infinity wax (dark) for darker cars if I'm not in a hurry
Dodo Juice soft waxes - colour coded. Orange crush for the Kadjar.
