Now that the days have shortened and I will be driving more in the dark, I've been looking at "Auto Main Beam" which says it will automatically dip the lights when it detects lights coming the other way.
Has anyone used this? I don't want to blind some poor sod coming the other way if it's slow to work. Is it any good?

It's the 1 facility on the Kadjar that I don't like. I like the idea but after a few tries, mostly on low traffic volume roads and village to village driving I found it simply doesn't work.

It is so slow to come back on main after dipping that you are grasping for the main beam stalk before it reacts, you want the lights back on full as you pass the opposing car, not 50 yards down the road.
I also feel I can judge better when to dip my lights that it does.I found it slow to react that way too.

However the worst bit is that if there is any ambient lighting, say a lamp post every hundred yds, then they simply won't light up even without traffic and ignoring the fact that you could see better with full headlights than without.

Mine stay permanently manually operated.

Yes, I agree with Roxy, they are far too sensitive, the slightest hint of a light turns them off, and as mentioned they are slow to turn back on. So I leave it to me to decide. It's no great loss, I've been doing it for 55 years.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that there are some things it's still better to do manually among all the clever computer controlled bits and pieces.

Our Kadjar has the LED headlights, I was surprised when I tried this - the auto-dip it works perfectly! Saves a lot of faffing about on a long journey. No-one has flashed us yet for leaving the main-beam on, and it reacts quickly. Couldn't believe all the negative comments on here!
