You need to remove the door card which will give you access to cable routing through the door gater in to the car and upto the mirror mount.
This will give you access to the mirror bolts and connectors where you can remove the mirror from the car.
Before this I would remove the actual mirror by pushing the glass towards the inside of the car enough to hook the clips, the mirror glass can be disconnected and removed from the housing.
Once the glass is removed there are screws to remove the inside to gain access to the cap clips.

A wire can be fed through close to the normal cable route. Of course the cap can be just swiped off but this will break the clips (as seen in YouTube videos), and possibly the cap.

This is how I take the glass out, gives access to the clips and screws to the rear cap.
