So today, as I currently have the ear of CS for another Rlink matter of my own, I asked whether there were any plans in the pipeline to introduce Android Auto and Apple Play in some form for V2 Firmware and I got the following answer from a First Level CS Advisor:

I will attempt to respond to those question with the best detail I can, but I will start with what I feel is most important for you, the Android
Auto and Apple Carplay app.

I am afraid that your Kadjar does not have the capability to use the
Smartphone Mirroring function required for those application.
This function is both Hardware and Software related, as you suspected I
would say, but I can not advise you more details about it.

When it comes to the Hardware, due to proprietary information, the
details about parts that your vehicle does not have are not shared
beyond the Assembly line. To the point where I do not have that
information and I believe a manufacturer will not be allowed to share it
with you.

For now there is no way to retrofit this function onto vehicles that do
not have it, but there is also no information saying such a fix will not
be released in the future, so if you subscribe to the R-Link Store
newsletter, should the function become available for your Kadjar, rest
assured you will be made aware.

That being said this will not be dependent on the System Software
running on your Kadjar, so there is no need to change your Software from
2.2.19.300 to 3.3. 16.940 or 7.0.24.13.

These are the 3 latest Software released for the R-Link 2. And all of
them are the same, fulfilling the same functions and having the same
Software capabilities.
They were merely programmed by different teams on the same developing
company, and as such they followed different branches of programming and
have different reference numbers. But it is not possible to jump from
one branch to the other, and it will not be needed, there are Renault
and Dacia vehicles that have been released with Smartphone Mirroring
running System Software version 2.2.19.300, 3.3.16.940 and 7.0.24.13.

Because there was a mention of Firmware Version 2.2.19.300 in his last paragraph and Smartphone Mirroring I thought I would ask for clarification on this, after all, I have that version so why am I not getting it, also I asked which models of Renault with 2.2.19.300 and got the following response:

I am afraid it does not depend on Models either, mostly on the age of the Vehicle.
A great number of vehicles that have been delivered after March 2017 are
already equipped with Smartphone Mirroring, they can be Renault
Kadjar's, Captur's or even Scenic's but the model alone will not assure
the Vehicle has that function.

I can honestly say that you only have 2 ways to be absolutely sure the Vehicle has that function or not.

For instance, if you are thinking of acquiring a new Renault, and have
access to the Vehicle Identification Number(VIN) of that new car you can
simply call me with that number. I will be more than happy to let you
know if you can use Android Auto and Apple Carplay on it, that is part
of what I am here for after all.

Alternatively, if its possible, you can also try to use it. Just install
the app on a compatible smartphone, plug it into the R-Link via USB and
look for the Smartphone Mirroring button

As far as I know, there is difference in the USBs. My guess is the units with software version 7 are the same as Hardware version 3.

If you read the posts above you will see that the Belgian guy put the version 3.3.16.946 instead of version 2.217.803 and then activated the android auto and carplay. So it's hardware related but it can be upgraded.

Agreed, the hardware is part of the issue, which is within the response from CS. It suggests vehicles that are have been manufactured since March 2017 would be fitted with the relevant hardware and, I'm sure someone will put me right on this, I think V2 was Firmware was still be used at that time, or was it?

I would want physical evidence, and I mean physical, before risking an upgrade to V3 that could go very wrong, it is not like there is a factory reset button that gets you back to square one.

It would be interesting to know if there is anyone on this site with a post March 2017 car still running V2

I bought my car in April 2017 but god knows when it was built. Sometime between October 2016 and then I suppose. How do you find out?

If you know the date of first registration it is probably only going to be a max of 2 months prior to that. Mine was built in March 2016 and first reg April 2016

You can check date of manufacture by VIN code there . Site in Russian, but results are in English. For instance, my Kadjar has date of manufacture 01.2017 and I bought it in March. It means no AA :(
