Yes it does - you just can't activate the AndroidAuto as it is not there :-)
I activated last year the possibility to have a movie running although you are driving. And no: I don't watch movies while I drive, it was just fiddling around with the DevMode without killing something important...

It's a method for unlocking AA only if you have the official update from V.2 to V.7.

I just want to get into DevMode to change parameters such as running lights, I tried to get into DevMode yesterday without success. Now I know it is possible I will persist.

Changes done via Dev mode are not always persistent. Or maybe - not all settings in Dev mode are writable. Some seem to be read-only. Best to use ddt4all for mods to ensure they persist.
One of the first Kadjars from Nov. 2015 - 1.2 TCe Manual ZEN - "old" R-Link (gen 1.1, soft 2.2) successfully updated to 3.3 with AA

The instructions say you must already be on V 2.2.*.* to upgrade so, yes, in theory, you can upgrade from your current version.
There is still one more official upgrade available to you that fixes the problem with the DAB information display if I remember correctly.
