Hi, my media unit has packed up 3 weeks after warranty expired and dealer wants over £1200 to replace it.
I want to try and get it repaired but it’s completely buried vertically in the dash. Does anybody know the easiest way to remove it please?

Sorry to hear about your unit failing, that is a bit naughty of the dealer to be so ridged about something that appears to be happening quite frequently, have you tried Renault Customer Services, NOT the dealer one? If I was you I would be making a lot of noise to Renault themselves and possibly they may play ball.

My unit, fortunately, went belly up about 3 months before the warranty expired in a very mild form so got it changed then.

It does seem to be common, especially around the end of the warranty which is frustrating. There’s companies out there who will repair them for a fraction of the price but it’s getting it out first. Dealer just said ‘whole dash out’ to get to it but before I started stripping anymore parts I was trying to find out if it’s an on your driveway type job or does it require specialist knowledge or tools?

In the meantime maybe I will try Renault, if you don’t ask you don’t get!

Mine was also changed few months before 5-years extended warranty expired. Got new device with V9 installed. I have luck, my Kadjar was only 2 days in repair shop... They managed to get a new device within one bussines day delivery...

After they had the new unit, mine was in for a day but there was a glitch with the download of the firmware so had to go back for a few hours for the firmware to be re-installed.

I thought I’d give an update on this in the hope it will help people in the future who find themselves in a similar situation to me.

Thanks to the advice given on this forum I contacted Renault Customer Services (the mothership, not the local dealer) and logged a complaint. As my issue related to an item that was out of warranty I wasn’t exactly top of their to do list but after several weeks of chasing and waiting I got a result.

Keeping in mind that although the media unit had failed to turn on once or twice before (was always resolved by turning the engine on and off) I’d never logged it with a dealership so they had no record of it..... They offered to cover 80% of the bill themselves with the local dealer covering a further 10% leaving just 10% / £128 for me to pay!!! This may just be down to good customer service but from talking to the guys on the other end of the phone I think they have LOTS of issues with these head units so maybe that played a part. Never in a million years did I expect to get a 90% discount.

Moral of the story is for me, if you ever have an issue no matter how small or intermittent and your car is still under warranty at least get it logged with your local dealer. Failing that don’t be afraid to go directly to the head honchos and make a nuisance of yourself, it saved me £1152.

Interestingly the dealer told me that if I hadn’t contributed anything Renault wouldn’t be obliged to offer any warranty on the new unit and if it failed in a few months I’d have been back in the same boat. The fact that I paid something towards it got me a 12 month warranty.

Massive thanks to all on here who replied and offered advice.
