Central GearShift Consul illumination not working so no Gearshift illumination at night.
Local Renault Dealer Dumbarton tell me they need to take in the car and strip down to find the problem - they are unable to tell me which fuse if any is meant to protect this cct!

I can't believe this cct has no protective fuse.

Can anyone tell me the location of the fuse that protects this specific cct. I'm a dithery 74 retired Submariner.
Cheers

Well it probably is working, unfortunately the bulb that is installed is a tiny cap bulb that glows and to top that they have put a plastic cover on it. Don’t know why? Have a look on a night, cup you hands around the display and place your eye ball right up!

I’ve replaced mine with a w5w led!

Thanks for your reply - mine is definitely not illuminated - I live out in the sticks and my nights are black. I've eyeballed it up close as you suggested but not a glimmer.
As I said initially I cant believe their is no fuse??

Daren, Nice mod. Did you just replace the bulb or the complete holder etc
Oh and how easy was it to get to the bulb please.

First of all, from the past few message, the bulb will certainly be working, it’s a tiny thing like a 508t 1w ish 12v powered at 6volts that is ultra dim, to add insult it’s also got a blue cap on it so you can’t see it! Can’t see there being a specific fuse for it, it’s more likely to be tied in with some ecu or some lighting circuit with it not been 12 volts. On testing I imagined it would’ve increased voltage by raising the dash brightness but it didn’t, at a guess that’s how it should’ve worked but as it’s all CAN and digital dash now it’s just set at a low voltage.

As it’s low volts anyway I pre wired an LED white w5w that I had, and wired it straight to an ignition feed, I have various bits of illumination anyway.

To get to it is quite hard it’s a strip down fo the consult sides and top which isn’t to bad but getting underneath the shift was a pain. I would only recommend if you are competent at striping stuff down. Putting the shift back together is just as fiddly!
