A while ago I downloaded a couple of apps, including the weather channel.  Now, I cannot access this in the car and the "R-link Store" button in the car is in grey text i.e. not accessible.  On other screens, the "connect" button is greyed out.  NOTHING I can do will change this.  What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong, only the G3 GSM network is no longer working. At least not anywhere in Europe and America. Millions of relatively modern cars were thus left without an Internet connection. The latest cars have a built-in G4 connection, but models just a few years old still had a G3.
Unfortunately, there is no solution.
