yep, and its not a smooth off its, bump off

i have now taken to ignore the parking brake completely, its a total waste of time on an auto. i use both feet now to hold the car on the brake and gas to move it and leave the parking brake to its own devices.

Mines manual but I still don't trust it one iota. Even parking normally I have a twitch as a result of giving a last glance down at the handbrake on light, the equivalent of the bikers lifesaver.

There are times when mine does exactly the same, never really bothered as to under what condition as I  lightengly quick clutch foot approach then hold it while I check around.

I use to press the brake pedal hard before giving some gas, the hill then holder function holds it until liftoff.
When the reverse is enggaged, let it take a second before pressing the gas pedal, and the motor-transmission slowly builds up some torque that eventually will pull the car uphill when you give more gas. Easy does it!

1898. thanks for that. Are you saying that by pressing hard on the brake pedal, you can effectively perform a "hill start assist" in reverse?

Yes, exactly, both forwards, and reverse. It seems that the car can sense the hill gradient, and the hill holder does not lock on flat ground.
