I bought my 66 plate kadjar a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to connect with android auto but it seems that  the software needs to be updated. Anyone know about this or how much it costs to update.

Not possible to update. Pre June 2017 cars (yours) run RLink2 Version 2 which does not support Apple Play/Android Auto. Post June 2017 cars run RLink2 Version 3 which does. Renault won't be offering a software fix anytime soon (ie never).
