Would anyone know if you can replace the multimedia unit with a newer model with Apple car play & Android auto?

Yes you can replace the unit, BIG expense and I would suggest dealer only as the firmware is downloaded from Renault.
Android and Car Play will not be activated as it is not standard on the early models of Kadjar. AA and ACP would be activated by end user through Developers Mode which I had to do for AA. AA will only work via a USB cable and not wirelessly. I have not tried ACP as I am not into Idiot Phones (IPhones)

The way I understand it, until there’s a work around is the the head unit needs coding to the car via renault, trying to fit a newer version from a damaged vehicle will not work unless a dealer registers it on the renault servers in France, if they would even consider doing it.

There’s various thoughts on ACP and AA, Android auto will work on previous V2 models if the firmware is uped to V3 self install or official V7 via the dealers.

The older head unit cannot work with ACP, exceptions are at the moment the Talisman, where changing the usb block apparently enables ACP. It’s been tried in a Kadjar and DOESN’T work.

That’s as far as it is, no doubt there will be advances as folk are trying different configurations.
