The handbook section 2.6 describes how to start the car if the battery in the key-card is flat, and this message should appear on the instrument panel: "Place card close to START and push" It recommends placing the Logo-Side of the key-card touching the button for a couple of seconds before pressing the button. Apparently you should get a warning on the instrument panel when the key-card-battery needs changing too...

My query about using the emergency key was how to switch the alarm off once the key had been used. If it's just the battery in the key card then yes you could get in the car and try to start the engine and shut the noise off. What happens if the key card is actually broken rather than just a flat battery, electronics will always fail at some point.

I know I'm looking for problems but I used to work for a data storage company, back up procedures and contingency planning were the lifeblood.

Hi robt, others seemed to suggest that the car couldn't be started using the key-card emergency-key, I was pointing out that [theoretically] it could be.
The handbook doesn't suggest that the alarm goes off when the door is opened using the emergency-key; is that a fault with yours or in the design of all Kadjars? I can't test mine as it's not here at the moment. I understand your concern about the what-if scenario. Renaults are not known for especially reliable electronics. I had a Scenic whose rear-wiper wouldn't switch-off; obviously not a good idea wiping a dry-screen continually. I found the correct fuse and it indeed stopped the wiper working, it also stopped the car being started! I took it to the dealer who "Reset" the system (?), the switch itself wasn't at fault.

The alarm going off took me by surprise as I had used a key to open the car, the alarm user manual is underwhelming to say the least. Buying a French car means you get some quirky styling (I like that) and some quirky logic (not so sure about that)!!
