Sorry, I meant the 16 pin plug in the tailgate. So back to my question..

Don't really understand how the pins that go into the 16 pin socket in the tailgate should look like. Whatever I try to stick in there, it feels quite loose and would probably fall out from the socket after some time. Can pull them out quite simply. Is there perhaps any standard 4-pin connector that would fit? I tried with a standard computer fan connector (4 pin), but the space between pins is too narrow.

The pins are extremely tiny and slide into place through the block they incorporate a spring clip which doubled with the plastic insert band lock them in the block. Very fiddly and very frustrating. Trying to actually crimp your owns and insert them is extremely difficult if you do not have the correct crimping equipment

Hi all,

if you use the connector I showed above you do not need to mess with any pins.
this fits between the r link and the car harness with the necessary pins in place and you just connect to them. Takes all the hassle out of the situation at the rlink end.

I can see this has been quiet for a while, but I thought I'd jump in to say a big thank you to all that have contributed to this brilliant thread. I've managed to install a perfectly functioning reverse camera!

I purchased a camera off aliexpress, removed the boot trim and located the wiring loom, and wired it in. I purchased two different ELM327 devices which didn't work, and in the end found it easy to just go through developer mode to activate the camera.

Things I found trickier than expected: splicing the tiny wires (little experience with electricals). Easier than expected: activating the camera and removing the boot trim. The photo instructions on this site are actually overkill, you can skip a couple of steps (but still obviously extremely helpful). I'm lucky to have a UK spec car with the loom at the back.

Happy to answer any questions. Started the new year very pleased!
