Just an update to my original post.

I was about to buy a decent set of 17in rims and on advice I checked with my insurance company first. They unfortunately said they wouldn't cover that modification which really surprised me. Even when I mentioned I might have to look elsewhere they didn't seem bothered.

For those that have made the swap how did your insurance company handle it and any tips on who I could switch to?

Other than that I'm stuck on the 19in for good. A local tyre specialist did say the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT was a softer tyre and might help a little.

I do not understand how the insurance company can justify that, 17 and 19 inch wheels are optional when buying the car and you are never asked what size wheels you have when taking out the insurance, so what is the problem?

It is a shame it has now been flagged up with them as I would have just changed the wheels.

Just depends on who you insure with. I've just insured my new Kadjar Signature Nav through A Plan Thatcham, declared that I'll be getting it mapped, throttle controler, K&N panel filter, reversing camera and have been told to advise of further mods. As long no more performance mods are made, it won't cost anymore, £420 including legal cover.

Just for interest, I checked out the difference changing from a 225/45/19 to a 225/55/19 would make to your speedo reading. Turns out it is 6.7% slower, so if the speedo is reading 60 mph your actually doing 64mph. Maybe worth bearing in mind.
Another member (Birca) had done this upgrade and said it made a decent improvement to the ride on rough road surfaces.
