Just unlock V 7 on Monday... sometimes it need quite a lot of time to start navigation. I niticed that in full screen start and initialize faster.

Silly question. Does your friend has right version of R-Link 7 eligable to patch? Was this patch the only update on USB stick? Stick formated to FAT32, no errors on unzip (if you use SW links in our site document you need latest WinRar to succesfully unpack update).
2016 White 1.6 dCi 4WD BOSE with Premium Techno Pack, Winter Pack, Panoramic glass roof & autodipp mirror and retractable towbar.
Added ambient illumination, few chrome trims,
Replaced R-Link2 V2.2 SW version 9. 0.34.611, enabled Android Auto and CarPlay (change USB slots)

Hi. How do you mean "Just unlock V7 on Monday? Yes, he used an empty USB-stick (that he previously used to update Renault maps) with one R-linkfolder and the two files inside. And it was the only update. He sent me a photo.

He has the same version of R-link as I have: 7.0.24.161 and he downloaded the patch marked "mm2014_upgrade_igo_70241xx_patched.zip"

His R-link is alive, but without maps. When he presses Menu and System the screen is empty. Could it be that the firmware somehow got erased?

hmm, I had same issue once as I played with the iGO file, but I got mine easy fixed installing update once more and adding new maps in as old ones didn't work, they were still on device but didn't show up for some reason so I deleted them fully. I would suggest your friend to install iGO file once more( better download it again to make sure is all correct) and install new maps and if he is getting no map coverage error let me know I will give you fix* file
